STOLEN DOG ALERT: The Very Sad Story of Edith & Archie

Friends, there is a heartbroken gentleman in Williamsburg today.

For the last eight months, Edith, a Chihuahua papillon mix, lived at BARC, the no-kill animal shelter in Williamsburg, near TheDo.gs‘ HQ in Brooklyn. Edith’s constant companion was Archie, a poodle/shih tzu mix. They were both 12-years-old and were put in the shelter when their owner had to go to a nursing home. But they had each other, and that’s a lot more than so many other shelter dogs have.  They were lifelong friends. Are you crying yet? Just wait.

Yesterday around 4PM someone came into the shelter, asked about adopting a dog, and then, when the shelter worker turned his back, she picked up Edith and ran out.

For the first time in his doggie life, Archie is alone. “He won’t eat without her. They did everything together. They wouldn’t even want to go on walks without each other,” BARC’s vice president, Vinnie Spinola, told me. “I don’t know why someone would do this. Maybe she only liked the one and didn’t want the other one. But Archie is very, very depressed.”

The police are investigating. The woman is believed to be tall and thin, in her twenties with long straight brown hair. And Edith looks like Edith. She is nine pounds and microchipped.

If you have any information, please email or contact BARC at 718-486-7489.
