Teaching a fish to swim through a hoop

This video is a must-see for understanding the power of the clicker. Here, training guru Karen Pryor demonstrates how to train a fish to swim through a hoop. When training dogs, we usually use the clicker as a marker symbol– it’s a sharp noise that pinpoints the exact moment that the dog is doing what you want them to. It’s like taking  snapshot  of that moment. There are other ways that you can mark the moment without a click. Fish don’t hear so well, so here, Karen uses a splash of water as a marker.
