I saw these on sale at the Union Square gift market this weekend.
My first thought was: “Cute!”
And then I thought, “Actually, dorky like Christmas sweaters.”
Then I thought “New Yorkers aren’t big Christmas sweater people. These people don’t know their market.”
But: “A lot of New Yorkers love their dogs. And we all need socks.”
And then: “It could be that they’re so not New York that now they are New York.”
Followed by: “Maybe they’re supposed to be ironic?”
It was like my finger was poised over the stall’s “Like” button but I just couldn’t bring myself to click. I took a photo so that I could continue this scintillating internal discourse at a later, warmer date.
