Animal geek that I am, I couldn’t be more excited for this weekend’s Discovery Channel’s airing of Isabella Rossellini’s documentary about her love of animals, Animals Distract Me. In it discusses a wild number of animals, from caged chickens to the tiny organisms that eat the dead skin on our eyelids. She also dresses up as Darwin. Swoon!
But of course, I’m mostly excited to hear Rossellini on the subject of dog love. It’s a treat to see her with her childhood pups in this video. Today, she works raising Labradors and Golden Retrievers for the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind on Long Island. In this New York Times article she discusses some of what is involved in working with a guide dog in its first year. Reporter Neil Genzlinger asks her who gets more attention when they go for walks–the movie star or the dog?
I think I’d want to pet them both.
