When I was down in Nashville visiting my sister Leila and her kids a few weeks ago, we shot this of her dog, Roop, singing while she played the violin. Amos chimes in with some interesting vocal choices at the end.
It’s awfully cute when he does this, but I’m inclined to think that he’s not singing for the pleasure of it. I think it’s possible that he’s singing because he’s uncomfortable or frustrated. He was showing some nervous “displacement” behaviors when he wasn’t singing–behaviors that usually signify some level of discomfort or confusion: head shaking, scratching, flicking out his tongue. I’m wondering if this isn’t an instance where we’re amuseming ourselves at the cost of putting a dog being put in a situation that he’d rather not be in needlessly… Remember Denver the “guilty” dog?
In any case, the damage is already done. I don’t think he’ll mind that I’ve put this on YouTube.
