Victor Garcia’s two dogs disappeared from his Long Beach, CA, home in 2007. In the last year, both were returned to him. More than three years later, they were found thanks to the fact that Garcia had gotten his dogs microchipped.
My first response: Yay microchips!
Second response: Why did it take so long? Were the microchips on sabbatical?
Anyway, it’s a nice little reunion tale. Read Elaine Furth’s article about it at DogFiles.

Hi,
What are your thoughts on freeze-branding as an alternative to microchipping or tattooing?

I’ve personally never tried it, but i’ve also never had a problem with dog theft. In some areas it’s a problem because a good coonhound can go for upwards of a grand, and chances are once someones got them, they’re never going to see the inside of a vet or a shelter to get scanned. What they should do is make a microchip with a battery that transmits a radio wave like a gps system. I don’t know why something like that isn’t on the market yet.

Good question! I’m going to research it and write a post.
