Annie is a dog-obsessed writer and animal trainer in her native New York City. She began TheDogs in 2010 and in 2012 opened School For The Dogs, a positive dog training school in Manhattan. She has written about pets for a variety of publications including The New York Times, GizmodoReadyMadeThe New York Observer, and Motherboard.Vice.Com, and was an associate producer for Animal Planet’s Too Cute: Puppies and Kittens. She is a graduate of NYU and is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner.


A lifelong animal lover, Mirkka started clicker training in 2002 in Finland  when she got her first Hovawart puppy, Dea. She is focused on bringing positive reinforcement training to urban dogs, especially in Toronto, where she lives and runs Mindful Behaviors dog training. She has a PhD degree in biochemistry and worked as a research scientist before becoming a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner.


Kate is a pet activist and trainer who uses modern, science-based methods to help owners communicate effectively with their pets. With a holistic approach to behavior, she helps develop solutions that enhance the owner-pet bond, ultimately working to cut down the number of pets who are surrendered to shelters. In addition to private sessions and classes with School For The Dogs, she also runs positive dog training classes at two NYC Petco locations.


Amy is a Brooklyn-based writer and dog trainer. Amy spends most of her time dreaming about the day she’ll develop the telepathic ability to communicate to animals. She shares her home and peanut butter with her Pit bull mix Federico Con Queso.


Jessica is a dog walker in Maine. An animal welfare advocate and humane educator, writer and speaker, she has worked extensively in animal shelters. She blogs at and is the founder of DINOS: Dogs In Need Of Space.


Lili is an illustrator and animator based in Los Angeles. When not working on animated cartoons, she creates custom pet portraits, fundraiser artwork, and dog training-related illustrations. She lives with Boogie, a Boston Terrier. For more, visit


Andre is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner who owns and operates When Hounds Fly, a clicker training school in Toronto. His newest project is, an online dog training school.


Ayelet was recently an apprentice with Renee Payne of Walk This Way and is currently training with her own company, Sabra Dog Training in Manhattan. After volunteering in Kanab Utah in 2010 volunteering with Best Friends Animal Society, Ayelet decided to make her life’s mission to rescue, rehab, and rehome dogs in need.


Lauren is the owner of Laurens Leash, a pet service company in New York City, offering GPS tracked walks, puppy care, and behavior modification programs.

Shir recently graduated from Tufts University. She grew up in Israel and Washington DC and now lives in Manhattan where she co-edits She shares her life with Weezy, a German Shepherd mix she rescued from New York’s Animal Care and Control.


Born and raised in Manhattan, Alex is a journalist and the founding editor of Vice’s tech site, Motherboard. He speaks some Chinese, some Russian, and is working on achieving fluency in barking.


Will is a recent graduate from Boston University, where he earned a degree in journalism. Originally from California, he is currently working at a veterinary clinic in Boston. He is working on becoming a certified veterinary-technician, and interested in training guide dogs. He manages TheDogsNYCPetEvents calendar.
